The Honors pledge calls for every Roach Honors student to dedicate themselves to "intellectual inquiry, lifelong learning, and critical thinking.” For Emma Sullivan, a senior biology major with a minor in cultural awareness in healthcare, Roach Honors student, and a Clark Society Scholar, this is not merely a statement; it is a commitment to growth and service to the community.

“The Honors College offered an incredible opportunity to challenge myself academically,” said Sullivan. “I’ve developed critical thinking, research, and problem-solving skills that have enriched my academic journey. The program has taught me to approach challenges with creativity, persistence, and a drive to seek meaningful, equitable solutions.”

As president of the Food Recovery Network and vice president of United Against Inequities in Disease, Sullivan is committed to combating food insecurity in the Fort Worth community. She has made an impact by reducing food waste on campus, coordinating meal deliveries to local shelters, and creating initiatives to address disparities in health education and resources.

Sullivan is devoted to fostering a dining environment that promotes dignity and humanity through her volunteer work at the Taste Project, a pay-what-you-can restaurant that offers nutritious meals to everyone, regardless of their financial means. “Volunteering has connected me with an amazing community and strengthened my belief in the power of addressing social determinants of health to drive meaningful, lasting change,” Sullivan said.

“These roles have solidified my passion for community outreach, emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, and guided my vision of a more equitable and compassionate healthcare system,” said Sullivan.

Eager to help others, Sullivan is motivated by the knowledge that her efforts will drive meaningful change. "I am fueled by a passion for improving health equity and the belief that every challenge is an opportunity to grow stronger and more capable," she shared.

Sullivan’s dedication to community service mirrors the promise made in the Honors College pledge. The principles of critical thinking, lifelong learning, and intellectual curiosity act as the cornerstone in her mission to reshape the conversation around food accessibility.
